Obituary of Alfred Joseph Rhoades
RHOADES - Alfred Joseph, 81, of Nanty Glo, went to be with the Lord June 13, 2019, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born October 11, 1937, son of the late Paul and Elizabeth Rhoades, he is preceded in death by brothers: Paul, John "Jack", Robert, and Vernon; sisters: Verelda, Elizabeth, and Delores; and grandson David Thomas Fiala. Survived by wife of 56 years, the former Kathryn Greene; children, Wendy (Jim) Fiala; and Scott (Karen); and grandchildren: Steven and Caleb Fiala. Also survived by brother, David "Curly"(Shirley), sister, Donna; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as sisters-in-law: Agnes, Mary Lois, and Romaine; and brothers-in-law: Hank and Bill. Alfred was the oldest member of Nanty Glo Fire Department, he enjoyed being an active member of his community, and was a long-time attendee of Wesleyan Holiness Church, Portage. He retired as inspector from PennDOT, with 28 years of service, as well as working for the former Sybert Feed Mill, and the former LaMantia Dodge, both of Nanty Glo. Alfred enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his beloved wife, Kathryn. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, and from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Wesleyan Holiness Church, 114 Academy Dr., Portage, Pastor Daniel Hellmann, officiating. Interment at United Brethren Cemetery, Belsano. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred's memory to Wesleyan Holiness Church.
