Obituary of Rita C. Eckenrode

ECKENRODE - Rita C. (Wasser), 78, of Ebensburg, passed away on Friday May 31, 2019 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. Born June 29, 1940 in Ebensburg, daughter of the late Robert A. "Ike" and Florence (Litzinger) Wasser. Preceded in death by brothers Robert J. Jr. "Ike" and Fred Wasser, infant sister Naomi, and sister Jane (Beverly J.) Hatch. Survived by husband, Robert Eckenrode, to whom she was married 57 years; sons: Jeffrey and Steven Eckenrode; grandchildren, Todd, Justin, Lynn, Elizabeth, and Allan Michael; and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Liam, Maddie, and Adriana. Also survived by brother, Jay (Dee) Wasser, Ebensburg; sister, Betty Lou DeSalvo, Ebensburg; brother-in-law Kenneth (Lucille) Eckenrode, Patton, and sisters-in-law Betty Wasser, Strongstown, Carole Wasser, Ebensburg, Darlene (Frank) Jovanaugh, Sharpsville, Maryann Schlosser, Myrtle Beach, SC . Rita was a member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, was an avid reader, and enjoyed swimming at the Ebensburg Pool. Rita worked for a time at the West End Market, Ebensburg, where she and her husband met. At her request, there will be no viewing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. David Lockard, celebrant. Entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
