Obituary of Elva M. Fye

FYE – Elva M."Gauby," 97 of Nanty Glo, passed away peacefully September 1, 2017 at home. Born May 17, 1920 in Carrolltown, daughter of the late Elmer and Florence (Delaney) Thomas. Preceded in death by husband Sidney A. Fye and sisters: Betty Myrick and Margie Edwards. Survived by daughter: Judith Shultz, with whom she resided, Nanty Glo; son Timothy Fye, married to the former Joan Gresko, Nanty Glo; grandchildren: Bridget Shultz; Michael (Brenda) Shultz; Janna Fye, and Mark Fye; and great grandchildren: Logan & Sydnee Shultz. She is also survived by her brother John (Nancy) Thomas, of Revloc; and her “adopted” granddaughter, her neighbor, Cathy Jackovich. Elva was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo, and a former member of the C.B. Club, where she went by the handle “GumDrop”. Elva enjoyed cooking and she had a kind heart. She enjoyed sending cards and writing notes to her family, friends, and to those she had met along her life’s journey. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a vigil prayer service will be held. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food for Families Food Pantry, Sr. Paula DelGrosso’s Soup Kitchen, 2201 Union Ave., Altoona, PA 16601 or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church
