MOTT - Helen “Grammer”, 93, formerly of Nanty Glo, passed away May 25, 2018 at Transitions Healthcare, Washington PA. Helen was born February 23, 1925 in Nanty Glo, daughter of the late John and Maria (Kivisto) Hakanen. Helen is preceded in death by her husband William B. Mott, daughters Diana Nagy and Karen Weaver, brothers Waco, Sulo, Ernest, and Arvid Hakanen and sister Edith Salem. She is survived by son David (Pam) Mott of Ebensburg, PA and daughters Mary Ann (Steven) Miller of Revloc, PA and Nancy (Julio) Casanas of Baltimore, MD and sons-in-law Paul J. Nagy of Weirton, WV and Ross L. Weaver of Fayetteville, GA and her sister-in-law Ellen Hakanen of Nanty Glo. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lisa Jackson (Richie), David Nagy, John Nagy (Kerri), Nicol Landis (Patrick), Paula Mankowski, Melissa Mott, David Mott (Michelle), John Allbaugh, Steven Miller, Rebecca Peduzzi (Jeffrey), Joseph Allbaugh, Daryl Casanas Carroll (David) and Dayna Casanas (Robert), 23 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren with one on the way and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. Helen was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest joy in life was having her entire family gathered together at home. Her sense pride for family has continued through her children and grandchildren. Her door was always open to family and friends. She enjoyed discussing her Finn heritage and instilled Finn pride into her children and grandchildren. Helen was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mundy’s Corner, where she served for many years on the Alter Guild. Helen’s family wish to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Transitions Healthcare Washington PA who became her second family and made her remaining years active and joyful. Your kind words, playfulness and tender touch did not go unnoticed by the Mott family. You truly are angels of mercy. For this reason, the family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Helen’s name to Transitions Healthcare Washington PA Resident Fund. Donations can be mailed to 90 Humbert Lane, Washington, PA 15301, c/o Jennifer Watson, NHA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 30th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Interment immediately following service at Finn Cemetery in Nanty Glo, PA.
