Obituary of Diane Griffith

GRIFFITH – Diane, 52, Cambria Twp., died March 25, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.  Born January 15, 1962, daughter of Modestus “Dusty” and June (Sheehan) Sherry.  Survived by parents, of Ebensburg R.D.; husband, Scott whom she married Oct. 28, 1989; and daughter Katherine “Kate”.   Sister of Carol (Joe) Hines; Martin (Susan) Sherry; Eileen (Ronald) Itell; Lynne (Lawrence) Natcher and Boyd (Michelle) Sherry, all of Ebensburg R.D.  Also sisters-in-law, Barb Sherry, Sara (Glen) McWhorter and brother-in-law, Doug Griffith.   Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews and cousins.  Preceded in death by brother, Duane “Dewey” Sherry and sister-in-law Jacquie Griffith.  Diane was a 1980 Bishop Carroll Graduate, and Graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in Management Information Systems and later employed with IUP, Maryland Medical Labs, and BioControl Technology.   In 2000 Diane was diagnosed with a very rare and serious form of brain and spinal cancer.  She fought incredible odds, achieving remission in early 2002.  Her grace, perseverance and faith during this battle and subsequent health challenges inspired many people.  She was a devoted mother and wife, and loved spending time with family and attending family events.  She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mundy’s Corner. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg; as well as from 10:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Paul’s Church, Pastor Kevin McNamara, officiating.  In lieu of other memorials, donations in Diane’s memory may be made to the St Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. 3328 William Penn Ave, Johnstown, PA. 15909.
