Obituary of Mary S. Bortnyik
BORTNYIK – Mary S., 74, of Belsano, passed away May 26, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center. Born January 6, 1945 in Nanty Glo, daughter of the late Henry and Viola Mae (Mundorff) Dyson. Preceded in death by sister, Betty Mishler, and niece Sara Collins. Survived by husband John, to whom she was married 56 years and children: Brandy (Frank) Bortnyik-Hegedus; Michael (Suzanne), Joseph, Marc, and Greg Conzo; 11 grandchildren: Trenton, Toby, Tayvin, Mike, Dana, Marc, Crystal, Randy, Jessica, Lexi, and Maria and 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers and sisters: James (Ruth) Dyson; Gilbert (Kay) Dyson; Dorothy Collins; Caroline DiGiaimo; Debra Boring; and Thomas (Deborah) Dyson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was retired from the Ebensburg Center, where she had served as a Residential Service Aid Supervisor. She was a member of the American-Polish Citizens Club, Nanty Glo American Legion, Nanty Glo Moose, and the Twin Rocks V.F.W. She enjoyed making trips to the casino with her husband, attending bingos with family and card playing. A member of Belsano Faith United Methodist Church, Mary was the host for many family gatherings, loving time spent with her children and grandchildren. She had always put others first, her caring and compassionate personality will be long remembered by all who knew her. Friends will be received from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Clayton Harriger and Pastor Bill Warrick, officiating. Interment at United Brethren Cemetery, Belsano. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to offset medical expenses incurred during Mary’s illness.
