SMITH – William Allen, 82, of Ebensburg, passed away February 2, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. Born August 16, 1930 in Vintondale, son of the late John M. and Mary E. (Donahue) Smith. Preceded in death by sisters: Mary, Ann, Catherine, Rebecca Jane, Hazel and Patricia; brother John; step-son-in-law Jerry Caldwell and step-daughter-in-law Denise Donaldson. Survived by wife, Mary Ann Donaldson-Smith; former wife Nancy Smith and their children: Darlene (Tom) Kubas, Greensburg, Pamela Kimmell and Brenda (Buck) Edwards, both of Beyer; and William Jr., of Maryland; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also survived by step-sons: Bob, Mark, Bill, and Larry Donaldson; stepdaughters Terry Caldwell, Karen (Glynn) Tummino, Judy (Andy) Mulato, Lori (“Doc” Mike) Tatarko, 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and sisters Eleanor Swartz and Elsie Turous, Johnstown; sister-in-law Margaret Smith, Vintondale, and many nieces and nephews. Bill and Mary Ann enjoyed 23 years together touring all 50 states, many provinces in Canada, Europe, Central America, Caribbean and winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. Bill went to grade and high school in Vintondale, as well as attended Cuyahago Community College and graduated from Ursuline College, Ohio. Bill served proudly in the U.S. Army twice right before the end of World War II and again in Korea. He held several jobs over the years including working in the coal mines, steel mills, post office, and retired from the Defense Department. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, the NARFE and AFSCME. At his request there will be no visitation. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial donations to the Conemaugh Regional Hospice, 315 Locust Street, Suite 5E, Johnstown, Pa. 15901 or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Mini-Mall, Ebensburg, Pa. 15931. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. *** A gathering of friends will be held from 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6th, 2013 at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Name Church, Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant.
