PEREIRA – Sister Melany, SSA, 67, the Sisters of St. Ann, Ebensburg, died March 10, 2013, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Johnstown. Born Oct. 17, 1945, in Bombay, India, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Pereira, Goa, India. Survived by brothers, Simon and Felix, and sisters, Luiza and Amancia, all of India. Also nieces and nephews; cousin, Marshall Pinto, and wife, Sandra, and children, Tania and Shanahan, Canada, and cousin, Francis DeMello, and wife, Pauline, and children, Peonia and Gregory, New Jersey. Sister Melany Pereira entered the Sisters of St. Ann’s Order in 1964 in India. In 1976, Mother General asked her to come to the U.S. to work for missions. Sister Melany taught school at St. Aloysius and All Saints Catholic schools in Cresson until this year. She loved her children and enjoyed teaching and touched many lives in her own ways. She traveled widely through the U.S. in mission activities. Sister Melany was very grateful for the community sisters and all her friends and Dr. Patti Stefanick and Dr. Awan who took great care of her during her illness. She cherished them. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount St. Ann’s Convent, 1120 N. Center St., Ebensburg. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus. Committal, Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, please donations to Sisters of St. Ann, American Cancer Society or All Saints Catholic School in Cresson, in Sister Melany’s memory. Funeral arrangements by Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg.
