GREENE Sara C. (McPherson), 97, Twin Rocks, was escorted by her many guardian angels into the arms of her beloved husband, Estay, whom she affectionately called Greene, Jan. 6, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 27, 1916, in Vintondale, daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Speicher) McPherson. Preceded in death by husband, Estay; daughter, Judy; grandson, Shaun Ray; daughter-in-law, Helen Greene; son-in-law, Mel Ray; brothers, Clarence, Vernon and Charles; sisters, Harriet Allison and Mary Findley; and niece, Louise Hohan. Sara was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include her children, John (Patty), Strongstown; Joyce Ray, Nanty Glo; Rosella (Skip) Cook, Twin Rocks; James (Debbie), Mundys Corner; Estay (Mary Ann) Twin Rocks; Susan (Larry) Heilos, Loveland, Colo.; and Ricky (Gloria) Mundys Corner; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Member of Belsano United Methodist Church. She worked at the Ebensburg States School. Lodges and organizations include the Nanty Glo Senior Citizens. She loved to travel and enjoyed crocheting and collecting angels. Sara was on the 1936 Vintondale High School championship basketball team that won 56 games in a row and was ranked No. 1 in the state. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Belsano Methodist Church, the Rev. John Hickman, officiating. Interment to follow at Belsano United Methodist Cemetery. Sara s family would like to thank the staff of Maple Winds and Autumn View for the exceptional loving care they gave to her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belsano United Methodist Church.
