GUARINO - Joseph M. Jr., 67, of Ebensburg and Gaithersburg, MD, and a native of Johnstown, passed away peacefully January 9, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. Born October 6, 1946 in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph M. and Leah Guarino. Preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Pasquerilla. Survived by brothers: Michael A. (Teresa) Guarino of Mobile, Alabama; Angelo C. Guarino of Germantown, Maryland; and Charles (Glenda) Guarino of Gainesville, Florida and his longtime companion, Linda Makin of Ebensburg and her family Dale Makin, of Pine Grove, Pa; and Mark (Michelle) of Miami, Florida and grandson Derek Makin of Summerhill, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a member of St. Martin s Roman Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where he served as an usher and had attended St. John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown. He recently retired from the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging where he served as dispatcher. He had also had a long career as a salesman and manager in the retail jewelry business in Tyson's Corner Mall. Worked many years for Crown American in Johnstown in retail sales. Raised in Johnstown, he was a graduate of Johnstown High School. A USMC veteran, he served in Vietnam. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing, however all are welcome to join his family in a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 14th at St. John Gualbert Cathedral in Johnstown, the Very Rev. James F. Crookston, celebrant. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery with military rites by the Conemaugh Valley Detachment #287 Marine Corp League. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Joseph s memory to the Leukemia Foundation or to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.
