WASSER Fred A., 72, of Ebensburg, passed away unexpectedly October 10, 2014 doing what he loved best, working in his garage. Born July 15, 1942 in Ebensburg, son of Robert A. Wasser and Florence Wasser-DeScanio. Preceded in death by first wife, Esther Jane Reighard Wasser, son Eugene Joseph, brother Robert J. Ike Wasser and sisters Jane (Bev) Hatch. Survived by wife, the former Carole Johnson, to whom he was married almost 18 years, and children: Fred Wasser, Jr., Altoona; Bridgette (Jim) Gabany, Winchester, Virginia; Major Brenda Wasser, USMC, Retired, of North Carolina; Robin Wasser, Indiana, Pa; Ray (Tonya) Johnson, and Germaine Johnson, both of Ebensburg; and Jennifer (Gary) Buchsen, Coudersport, Pa. Also 14 grandchildren. Brother of Betty Lou (Art) DeSalvo; Rita (Bob) Eckenrode, and Jay (Dee) Wasser, all of Ebensburg and numerous nieces and nephews. A Member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, where he was active in the Men s Choir. A Life member of the Dauntless Fire Company, where he had served as Fire Police chief and a driver. Member of County and Central District Fireman s Associations and Mainline Police Association. Fred was self-employed, owner of Fred Wasser Excavating and had worked over the years as a part time Ebensburg Borough Policeman, and for the Borough Water Authority. He was a jack of all trades and was a go to person for anyone with a project or a problem. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held Monday evening. A Fireman s Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude s Children s Hospital in Fred s memory.
