Obituary of Catherine F. Boland

BOLAND Catherine F.(Stopchick), 86, of Ebensburg, passed away October 28, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 26, 1928 in Charles, Pa., daughter of the late Andrew and Frances (Kozlo) Stopchick. Preceded in death by son, Gregory J. Boland, sisters: Ann Visnyiczke and Mary Schechter; brother, Steve Stopchick, and half-brothers John, Michael, and Frank Noreika. Survived by husband, Leo W. Boland, whom she was married 61 years (1953) and children: Rev. Fr. Stephen Boland, M.S.C., Aurora, Illinois; Philip Boland, Ebensburg; Douglas Boland, Northern Cambria; Sharon (Robert) Swope, Ebensburg; Benjamin Boland, Carrolltown, and Howard and Charles Boland, at home; grandchildren: Corey & Ryan Boland, Jeremy & Jessica Boland, Dale, Shawn & Andrew Swope; and great grandchildren Christian, Kaley, and Jasmine. Also survived by brother, Sam Stopchick, Nanty Glo, and sister-in-law Alma Stopchick, Cranberry Twp., Pa. Catherine was a member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, where she had been active on the church cleaning committee. A 1945 graduate of the Nanty Glo-Vintondale High School. A homemaker for the majority of her life, Catherine had also worked in her younger years as a stenographer for the Borden Company, in New York City and for Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Toledo, Ohio. She enjoyed taking daily walks and spending time with her family. Friends will be received from 4-8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held at 4:15 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, at Holy Name Church, Rev. Fr. Stephen Boland, celebrant. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Catherine s memory may be made to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (www.misacor-usa.org)
