MAKIN - Shirley L., 88, of South Ebensburg (Summerhill R.D.) passed away December 9, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Born April 17, 1926 in Needham, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Gillis Walker and Ruby Della (Parker) Stark. Preceded in death by brothers, Dexter (Dorothy) Stark and Charles Stark, and grandson Craig Sheehan. Survived by husband, P. Ned Makin, to whom she was married 68 years and children: Terry, married to the former Kathy Bailor, South Ebensburg; Janie, wife of Jack Cheskey, Ebensburg; Pat Pileski, Penn Run, Pa.; Nancy, wife of Mike McBreen, Emporium; Sherry Lynn, wife of Doug Sheehan, Ebensburg, and Tim Makin, of South Ebensburg. Loving Grammy to 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by sister in law Irene Stark, of Massachusetts. Shirley was a member of the South Ebensburg United Church of Christ, where she had been active as a Sunday School Teacher and a longtime member of the church s Social Committee. She had also sung in the church choir many years ago. She had been employed at the former Acme Market in Ebensburg, and retired after 34 years of service to Home Appliance Service, Inc. in Ebensburg. She enjoyed trips to West Virginia and to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon with her husband. An avid reader, she also loved knitting, bowling, swimming and golf. Grateful thanks are extended to Shirley s wonderful caregivers: Dr. Scott Magley and staff, Miner s Medical Center staff, and the kind staff at Rebecca Manor, Ebensburg and Home Nursing Agency Hospice. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, Pastor Chuck Davis, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley s memory may be made to the South Ebensburg United Church of Christ, 380 Wilmore Road, Portage, Pa. 15946
