Obituary of Kenneth D. Smith

SMITH KENNETH D. "KEN " "SMITTY ", 64, of Ebensburg, passed away December 24, 2014 at Miners Memorial Hospital. Born November 5, 1950 in Spangler, son of the late William Daniel and Verna L. (Francis) Smith. Survived by wife, the former Gloria Steiner, to whom he was married 40 years, and children: Clinton, Ashley, and Bradley; and his brother Daniel. Ken was the owner/operator, of Smith Lawn Service, which he established in 1983 and is now skillfully managed by his two sons. Previous to going into business for himself, Ken had also been employed by Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 12 years and served as a PA Deputy Game Commissioner here in Cambria County. A veteran of the Army National Guard, Ken had been deployed on many occasions of flooding in the area. Ken enjoyed talking to people and loved his job. He started every day with coffee with the guys at the 8:00 am coffee club and then happily tended to his customers. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m., Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, the Rev. Msgr. John R. Sasway, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church in Lilly.
