DAMIN Dorino Giovanni Dean, 93, Ebensburg, died March 8, 2015, in Ebensburg. Born June 2, 1921, in Villapiana Providence of Belluno, Italy, son of Antonio and Marcella (Zanivan) Damin. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Angela Bionaz; sister, Norina Vrabel, and husband, Paul Vrabel; brother, Romeo; in-laws, Rene and Valeria Bionaz; and brother-in-law and sister-in- law, Ferdinand and Mary Bionaz. Survived by children, Dean (Lucia Mangarella), Porter, Texas; Rene (Janet DeBernardis), Ebensburg; and Gina Bruno (Louis), Canonsburg; grandchildren, Paul (Erin), Vincent (Virginia), Catherine, Nicholas (Jenny), Kimberly and Andrea; and great-grandchildren, Isaac, Micah, Luca, Olivia and Kate. Brother of Ceri (Jerry) Damin, and wife, Jean, Ebensburg, and Angelica Trovato (Ross) Pittsburgh. Dean departed Italy Oct. 1, 1932, on Conte Grande and arrived at the Statue of Liberty Oct. 11, 1932, and moved to Avella, in Washington County, Pa. Graduate of Avella High School in 1938. Worked in the coal mines from 1939 to 1942. Entered into the Army Air Corps on Oct. 11, 1942, until 1946 and was in the reserves until 1952, serving as crew chief on B-17 and as flight engineer on B-29 bombers. Married Angela Bionaz, RN, Oct. 25, 1947. Was a printer apprentice from 1947 to 1951 and, was employed at The Tribune- Democrat until 1952. Purchased Lintz Printing in May 1952. Purchased bowling alley in 1960 and moved to present location in 1961. Joined Portage Fire Company in 1947 and Dauntless Fire Company in 1954. Managed the Engineers Little League baseball team for seven years, Boy Scout Troop 98 for eight years and Drum and Bugle Corps for 10 years. Member of Central Cambria School Board for 17 years, PIAA soccer official for 43 years, Solid Waste Authority from 1996 to 2009 and Lions Club. Helped to build the Lions ball field. Life member of both Portage and Dauntless fire companies. Life member of K of C Council 522, VFW Post 4963 and American Legion Post 363, all of Ebensburg. Member of Bellyachers Hunting Club, Benscreek Bachelor Camp and Camp Nick. Also on the committee to start the Ebensburg Area Ambulance Association. Semi-retired from Damin Printing. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, where vigil wake service will be held. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, the Rev. Msgr. David Locker. Committal, St. Bartholomew Cemetery, Wilmore. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Dauntless or Portage fire companies or Skills Foundation in Dean s memory. Fire Company service at 6:30 p.m., veteran s service at 7:15 and K of C service at 7:45 Tuesday.
