Obituary of Karl A. Koenig

KOENIG KARL, A., 88, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully July 31, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born August 21, 1926 in Johnstown, son of the late Karl W. and Bertha (Niessner) Koenig. He was preceded in death by son Robert M., an infant granddaughter Deanna, and brothers John & Lawrence. Survived by wife, Marie (Gavin) Koenig to whom he was married 65 years and these children: Karl Jr. (Linda), Florida; Mark (Linda), Nanty Glo; Kevin(Cynthia), of California; Tom of Ebensburg; Brian of Lebanon, Pa.; and daughter-in-law Theresa (Buynack) Koenig of Portage. Also 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Brother of Leroy (Helen) Koenig, Holsopple, Pa.; Kathleen Koenig, Johnstown, Ronald (Barbara) Koenig, Delmont, and sisters-in-law: Caroline Carrie Koenig, Hyde Park, NY; and Suzanne Koenig, of Linthicum, Maryland. He retired with 35 years of service as a field engineer for NCR. A member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Ebensburg and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #522. A World War II Army veteran, having served in Germany, he was also a member of the Ebensburg Post 4962 VFW. Karl enjoyed watersports, working on cars, ice skating and spending time with his family. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Monsignor David Lockard, celebrant. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery. Graveside military rite by local veterans organizations. A Knights of Columbus Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karl s memory may be made to the Home Nursing Agency Foundation in appreciation of their compassionate care and service to the Koenig family.
