SHERRY – Sylvia Ann (Kaufman), 78, formerly of Carrolltown, passed away November 1, 2017 in Johnstown. Born December 29, 1938 in Franklin, Massachusetts, daughter of the late George and Lois (Sylvia) Kaufman. Preceded in death by husband Gerald J. Sherry. Survived by daughters: Dr. Dawn A. Sherry, and her husband Carl Schmidt, of Forsyth, Georgia; Deborah S., wife of James Hegedus, Vintondale; and Deanna M. Sherry, of Pittsburgh. Also three grandchildren: Benjamin Schmidt, Cody & Samantha Hegedus, and sister Thelma Catro, of Murphy, North Carolina. Sylvia was a graduate of Mount Aloysius College with an Associate Degree in Science. She had served in the U.S. Woman’s Army Corp (WAC) from 1958 to 1963 as a secretary-stenographer at Fort Knox, Kentucky. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Carrolltown; Carrolltown Fire Ladies Auxiliary, Cambria County Fire Ladies, and the Carrolltown Post #506 American Legion. She retired from Ebensburg Center and in her spare time enjoyed crafting and needlework. At her request there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m., until time of Memorial Service at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. Rev. Jude Brady, O.S.B., officiating. Special thanks are extended to Sylvia’s caregivers at Arbutus Park Manor and Aseracare Hopice and to all family and friends who took the time to visit with her. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia’s memory may be made to the Carrolltown Volunteer Fire Company, Carrolltown Area Ambulance, or to the Carrolltown American Legion.
