STAGER - Jeannette (Luther), 87, of Ebensburg and Nanty Glo, passed away Sept. 30, 2006, at the Windber Hospice Center. She was born Feb 24, 1919, in Luthersburg, daughter of the late James M. and Lula (Dunlap) Luther. She lived and raised her daughter in Nanty Glo and spent her remaining years in Ebensburg after the death of her husband of 41 years, Robert "Johnny" Stager of Nanty Glo. The spirit of Jeannette lives on in the hearts of her daughter, Carol; son-in-law, Dr. George Commons; and her three grandchildren, Bradford, Ryan and Karen Commons, all of Los Altos Hills, Calif. She will be missed by her many friends and relatives, especially by her closest and most devoted friend, Dutch Rosensteel. She is survived by sisters, Maxine (Luther) Lauer-Kelly and Dorothy (Luther) Shea of Ebensburg, and preceded in death by her sisters, Helen (Luther) Arnold, Genevieve (Luther) Liddle, Luella (Luther) Dietrick, and brothers, Russell, Jesse, Cecil, Joseph, Wayne and James Luther Jr. She will be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, especially Mark and Dale Lauer, Clare Shea, Mi-chelle (Shea) Hendricks, Jackie (Shea) Zapp and Jackie Zapp, who affectionately called her "Aunt Nett." She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nancy (Martin) Stager and Genevieve (Stager) Trimeloni, as well as many nieces and nephews including the Olexo, Teeter, Wilson and Trimeloni families. Jeannette loved holidays and large gatherings of family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, canning, watching her nephews play sports, TV baseball and playing cards. She was famous for her fine chocolate-covered candies, her homemade noodles and tasty pies. She was a world traveler and also participated in many Pioneer trips and events planned by her loving sister, Maxine. Jeannette was an active member of the community. She was involved in the Fire Ladies auxiliary, Ebensburg VFW Ladies auxiliary, Women's Federated Democrat Club, Nanty Glo and Ebensburg Catholic Daughters of America and Altar-Rosary Society of St. Mary's Church in Nanty Glo. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where vigil prayer service will be held. C.D. of A. will recite the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Ebensburg, Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal, Grandview Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeannette's memory may be made to your favorite charity.
