ASKEW - Phillip Russell "Phil", 77, of Lake Placid, Florida, and formerly of Ebensburg, died December 7, 2004 at the Lake Placid Health Care Center. Born January 26, 1927 in Colver, son of the late John William and Mabel Bessie (Spencer) Askew. He is preceded in death by his brothers: William, Clair, George, Guy, John Wayne, and Milton; sisters: Rebecca, Thelma, Mabel, Mary, and Cordelia. Survived by wife, the former Marjorie Schneider, to whom he was married 54 years, and children: David, of Bay Pines, Florida; Rebecca, wife of Walt Nicklien, Blairsville, Georgia; and grandsons: Tim & Marc Nicklien and Michael Milam. Also survived by brother, Harold Askew, of Ebensburg. Phil served in the US Navy as a Pharmacists' Mate and later in the Navy Reserve. A 1949 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, he was co-owner of the Askew Funeral Home in Ebensburg until moving to Ft. Lauderdale in 1956. He worked for the Postal Service, retiring as manager in 1986. Upon moving to Lake Placid, he was employed part-time for the Scott Funeral Home. Member of the Lake Placid First Presbyterian Church; Past president of the Lake Placid Rotary Club, past-president of the Placid Lakes Homeowners and Highlands County Homeowners Associations, and member of Summit Lodge #312 F & A.M., Ebensburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Lake Placid First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Ray Cameron, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phil's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 118 N. Oak Street, Lake Placid, Florida 33852
