Obituary of August Smith

Smith - August, 80, of Miami and Winter Haven, Florida; formerly of Graceton, Pennsylvania, passed away November 12, 2006 in Davenport, Florida. Born June 12, 1926 in Graceton, son of the late Gusty and Mary (Duritzo) Smith. Survived by wife, the former Mary Dargay, to whom he was married 54 years and sons Gary (Cheryl) and Dennis (Joanne) Smith, Miami; granddaughter Jeniffer (Joshua) and great-grand-kids Christian and Alexa, whom he was devoted to and brought him great joy. Brother of Rosella Prenni, Avonmore; Helen Sowers, Graceton; Mary Ann Angelini, Homer City; Marcella Fetchko, of Josephine; and George Smith of Rangley, Colorado. Active member of St. Richard Roman Catholic Church in Palmetto Bay, Florida since 1992, where he had been in charge of the Outreach Ministry for 10 years. His daily devotion to Sacred Heart Church of Homestead and St. Ann Mission was a large part of his life. He helped provide them with food for the holidays, toys for tots, clothes and various other donations. A World War II Navy veteran. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Graceton, the Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Kinary, celebrant. Committal at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg.
