SMEAL – Charles Wesley, 73, of Sunbury, passed away October 7, 2019 at Cambria Care Center. Born May 9th, 1946 in Rochester, New York, son of the late Rev. Wesley and Helen (Lake) Smeal. Preceded in death by niece Laurie Reeves and brother-in-law Lloyd Grigsby. Survived by sister and brothers: Anita P. Grigsby, Fackler, Alabama; Dr. William “Bill” (Paula Wirfel) Smeal, Ebensburg; and George Paul Smeal, Williamsport, Pa. Also survived by nieces and nephews: Stacie & Eric Roshethal, and their daughter Asher; Steven & Alyssa Smeal, Todd & Tammy Robinson, and their son Samuel and step-nephew Joshua. Charles had been a resident of Sunbury since 1986, he attended church regularly at St. Matthews Episcopal Church and had a community of friends in town and at his church. He enjoyed walking, traveling with family to New York and Canada; and will be long remembered for his compassionate nature and caring for others. Though dealing with struggles of his own, he always tried to help anyone where he could. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m., Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg. Rev. Asa Sherman officiating. Interment at Fishertown Cemetery, Bedford County. An additional Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthew’s Church, Sunbury at a later date, the Rev. Robin Jarell, Rector, officiating.
