Obituary of Arthur "Petsy" Mervine
MERVINE – Arthur J. “Petsy”, 82, Strongstown, passed away Jan. 9, 2020 at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana, surrounded by the love of family and compassionate staff. Born Oct. 20, 1937 in Belsano, son of the late Arthur and Marie (Hunter) Mervine. Preceded in death by brothers, Homer, Ronald and Melvin; and sister, Aleene Butterworth. Survived by sisters, Catherine (Frank) Spotts; Sandra (Ronald) Frederick; and Rosemary (George) Roles. Also survived by sisters in law, Edna Mervine and Robin Mervine; and brother in law, Ed Butterworth. Petsy was the favorite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. “Special” doesn’t begin to describe the spoiled 5 year old boy trapped in a failing 82 year old body. He described himself as “a good kid” but he was so much more. If you’ve ever seen that infectious smile, you know exactly what I’m saying. His loves were animals – real and stuffed, with pony Butterscotch being his favorite, babies and the ladies (not necessarily in that order). He’s taught our family the meaning of unconditional love, acceptance, and that blessings come in many different forms. He was our blessing and will be forever loved and missed. Friends will be received from 2-4p.m. and 6 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, Pastor Clayton Harriger, officiating. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make donations in Petsy’s memory to St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana or the Cambria County Humane Society.
