Obituary of James W. Bortz

BORTZ – James W. “Pappy”, 76, of Jackson Twp., passed away Aug. 12, 2020 at home. Born July 26, 1944 in Grove City, son of the late Charles and Dorothy Bortz. Preceded in death by son, James M. Survived by wife, Kathy, of 52 years of marriage…”and was the love of my life.” Son, Chris Bortz, of Lancaster. Granddaughters, Baylee, Abbie, Hannah, Ella and Lydia; and daughter in law, Heather Thompson Bortz. Also survived by brother, Tom (Lynda) Bortz; sisters, Karen (Ron) Leach and Sandy Anderson; several nieces and nieces; and special friends, Mazzey, Bob Cat and Roxy. US Air Force veteran. James was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Longtime member of Ebensburg County Club. Baseball Coach for many years for East Taylor-Jackson. James was also an avid follower of Central Cambria Athletics. His smile and quirky sense of humor will be sadly missed. Friends will be received from 2:30 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. In lieu of flowers, donations in James memory may be made to Jackson Twp.
