KUHAR - John J., Jr.,"Sonny", 79, of Vintondale passed away on November 28, 2020 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. Born on May 29, 1941 in Johnstown. Dedicated law enforcement officer of 60 years, as of October 29, 2020. Municipal police training number from Harrisburg 134 and Sheriff badge number 13. He began his career as a police officer in 1960. John worked at Navy Brothers Store from 1955-1976 and delivered groceries in his police uniform. John first worked undercover, using his personal car. He worked as a part-time officer for Vintondale, Nanty Glo, and Blacklick Township (where he was Chief). Eventually becoming a full-time officer in Nanty Glo. John worked both full-time and part-time as a Deputy Sheriff. He also served as a Constable and Mayor of Vintondale. Everyone called him "Chief". Preceded in death by parents, John and Stella; brother, Jim; sister, Barbie Sheesley; and son, Michael. Survived by wife of 57 years, Rosemarie; children, John; Claudine “Dee” (Russ) Bishop; Carol (Rob) Garver; and Paul (Andrea); grandchildren, Nichole (Frank) Kolarik; Eric (Kelly); Allie (Josh) Byers; Brandon; Ashley; Randy; and Dylan; great grandchildren, Payton; Zachary; Brooke; Claire; Mia; Aliegha; and Thea. Also survived by siblings, Tom (Cheryl); Steve; and Kathy (Mike) Rose; aunt, Dorothy "Dot" Verba; numerous nieces and nephews, countless family members, friends, and community members. He was a lifetime member of the Vintondale Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Vintondale VFW. An avid fisherman, John loved going to Potter County with his family. He enjoyed fishing and talking with friends at Duman Lake Park. John adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spoke with such joy about his family. He had a passion for crossword puzzles and coin collecting. At the request of the family there will be no viewing. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
