SENDEK – Mary O., 79, of Nanty Glo, went to be with the Lord April 16, 2021 unexpectedly, at home. Born July 24, 1941 in Alverda, PA, daughter of the late James Jacob O’Brien and Elizabeth Tudor. Preceded in death by Benjamin Tudor; Frank G. Wright; spouse, Robert Sendek; son, David C. McMullen; and brothers, William, Morgan, Daniel, John, James, George & Patrick. Survived by children, Kimberly (David) Kaschalk and Daniel (Carmen) McMullen; sisters, Dolly (John) Michura; and Nancy (Frank) Ropchock. Also survived by sister in law, Vicki O'Brien; grandchildren, Courtney, Alexandrea, Rosie, Charlie, Pilot, Makylie & Buddy. Lifelong friend, Sr. Dolores Burgo, O.S.B.; children’s father, Lloyd “Buddy” McMullen, Jr.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews & friends. Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage, collecting many Celtic heirlooms throughout the years. She earned her Cosmetology License in 1974 and taught for a few years at Tri-County Beauty School. She went on to have a successful, lifelong career as the Manager of Regis Hair Stylists in The Richland Mall/Galleria, where, with the help of her amazing staff, their salon earned many awards. With these awards Mary was fortunate to have traveled to Hong Kong, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Hawaii, Mexico and Portugal. She retired after 40 years of service. She loved to bowl and belonged to the independent ladies bowling league at Lakeview Lanes, Ebensburg, PA. She also enjoyed gardening and watching sports on TV, especially Pittsburgh Pirates baseball. Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Deacon Thomas Buige, officiating. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery, Twin Rocks. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to The Lupus Foundation of America.
