Obituary of Josephine Catherine Edwards

EDWARDS - Josephine Catherine (Mirra), 100, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.  Born January 20, 1922 in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Sebastian and Carmela (Logrutto) Mirra.  The last surviving member of her immediate family,  she is preceded in death by her husband Arthur E. Edwards, son Russell, ten siblings, in-laws:  Elmer (Bessie) Edwards, Shirley (Robert) Brodish, Hazel (Vaughn) Bennett, Velma and Archie Edwards.     Survived by daughters,  Deborah Edwards and Denise (Michael) Murphy, both of Ebensburg.   Known as “Mam” to her grandchildren:  Adam (Jessica) Murphy and Cathy (Brian) Holley, and great grandchildren Bryant, Jocelyn, and Logan Holley; and Garrett and Reid Murphy.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  Josephine’s passions included being a devout Catholic, a longtime member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  She enjoyed building puzzles, giving one particular great grandson a hard time, (but loving them all dearly) and eating coffee and toast.  She took great pride in working as a seamstress for 40 years. She was 100 years young, with decades full of experiences and would still laugh and joke with her Philadelphia humor.   A gathering of friends will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday (Feb. 5^th) at Holy Name Church narthex, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Fr. Brian Warchola, celebrant. Interment Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for the purchase of a park bench in Ebensburg in memory of “Mam” and “Pap” and Russ Edwards.  Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg.  Condolences to the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
