EMERICH – Karl Albert, 85, of Ebensburg passed away peacefully April 7, 2023 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born April 6, 1938 in Summit Station, Pa., son of the late Norman and Lulu (Trumbo) Emerich. Preceded in death by brother Roy Emerich and an infant sister. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet (Koch) Emerich and children: Gretchen (Robert) Drass, Dumfries, VA; David (Melinda) Emerich, Washington, Pa.; Laura (Daniel) Anna, Glenelg, MD.; grandchildren: Stephanie, Steven, Nikolas and Vittoria, and great-grandson Matthew. Also survived by sisters: Diane Wetzel, of Ashland, Pa. and Faye Schaffer, of Myrtle Beach, SC. Karl was a longtime member of the South Ebensburg United Church of Christ, where he was an active volunteer, choir member, and served on various church committees. Retired, he had been the owner of InputPlus, a longstanding computer programming business in Ebensburg. He had also been a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, enjoyed all types of gardening and was a Penn State graduate and life-long fan. He was proud of his Pennsylvania Dutch background, telling jokes (Kannst du micka funga? Ja, wenn de hocka bleiben!) and sharing stories of growing up on the family farm. Friends may gather from 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., Mr. Andrew Jones, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karl’s memory may be made to the Ebensburg Cambria Free Public Library, 225 W. Highland Ave, Ebensburg, Pa. 15931.
