Obituary of Ronald Dwaine Frederick, Sr.
FREDERICK – Ronald Dwaine, Sr. “Tutter”, 82 of Strongstown, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024 at IRMC, with his wife and family lovingly at his side. Tutter was born March 6, 1942 to the late George and Katherine (Blackner) Frederick. His beloved daughter, Sandra Hauck and cherished grandson, Matt Shilling, preceded him in death. He is also predeceased by infant sister, Shirley; brothers, Harry “Snook”, George “Butty”, John and David; in-laws, Art/Marie Mervine, AnnaMae and Ann Frederick, Homer, Petsy, Ron and Melvin “Butch” Mervine and Aleene/Ed Butterworth. He is survived by devoted wife of 62 ½ years, Sandra (Mervine) and children, Cathy (Jim) Shilling; Rhonda (David) Earhart; Ronald (Miss) Frederick; and son-in-law, Michael Hauck. Tutter leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by in-laws, Josephine and Georgia Frederick, Cathy/Frank Spotts, Rosemary/George Roles, Patty, Edna and Robin Mervine. Tutter and Sandy met as teenagers, marriage and babies quickly followed and their bond only grew stronger with each passing year. Together, they built their family home in Strongstown, where they raised their 4 children, entertained most of the kids in Frederick’s Hollow and later became the gathering place for their grandchildren too. They shared the responsibilities of family care giving for their parents and Petsy (Tutter’s favorite brother-in-law) for many years. Family and friends were always his greatest joys (and maybe cheese and desserts). Tutter was a member of UMWA and worked in various coal mines for 28 ½ years before cardiac/lung disease forced him into retirement from Florence #2 mine. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on old vehicles, buying/selling 3 and 4 wheelers and most of all, camping with his family and friends he met over the years. The last few months of Tutter’s life were slowly stolen by dementia, forgetting events, family and friends but he never lost his quirky sense of humor. He rarely remembered that he lovingly called his wife “Mable” but he was still able to feel that “forever love” that surrounded him continually. He will be dearly missed by so many and forever in their hearts. Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 10a.m. on Friday, the Rev. Clayton Harriger, officiating. Interment, Pineland Cemetery Strongstown. Condolences may be left for the family at www.askew-houser.com
