Pap was my favorite character in life. He wasn’t just my pap, he was my father in all sense and purposes. Raised me from the time I was little. He was the hardest worker, possibly the inventor of sarcasm, and the funniest person I've ever known. A fixer, though not always in a pretty way, but it always worked.
As a child, I don’t remember him as much of a talker, but I do remember his smile when he did something for you that he knew you would love. It would start as a childlike grin and grow into a laugh that let you know he loved you and wanted nothing more than to bring you happiness. He still did this at 92.
We all grew up with thick skin because if we didn’t, we were the subject of relentless teasing. We got the relentless teasing anyway—Pap made sure we were well-prepared for the world and that we could give it right back when needed. It built character in all of us, made us learn quick comebacks, and taught us to never take life too seriously.
He was particular about many things: mostly his yard, not splashing water out of the pool, what time we got home at night (or morning). Nothing got past him, even when we thought we were sneaky.
He loved my grandmother. Gosh, did he love her. It warms my heart to know they’re together again after almost 19 years apart.
He loved his family as a whole, stayed close with his sisters and brother, and scolded his kids when they wanted to do too much for him. He never really asked for help, but there were signs in the last year that he needed others. We never did “it” right, whatever it was—but if he said we did, that would be too weird.
We didn’t agree on politics, so it became an easy tease anytime we talked, especially in the last 8 years. I loved that it never made us bitter and was proof that Democrats and Republicans CAN remember what it was like to get along despite our differences.
He loved sweets, loved to fish and he loved a good Western. One line from a Western that perfectly captures his personality is: “You gonna do somethin’? Or are you just gonna stand there and bleed?”
He was much more talkative in his older days, and I loved his stories, mostly making fun of someone in the family or telling me old railroad stories. I knew more recently his time was coming to an end and I couldn’t keep him forever, but I’m gutted to think of my life without him.Forever the toughest guy I know all the way to the end.
As John Wayne said, “Life is getting up one more time than you’ve been knocked down.” You got up for the last time, Pap. There’s a new sheriff in heaven, they’re all in for a ride. ❤️ thank you for the life only you could have given.

The desk Uncle Jim made many years ago for my mom is still in her room. He was a master carpenter. I’ll always remember the phone call he made to me when my mom passed away, and I know he would chat with my mom when she called him later in life. After I had grown, my mom and dad enjoyed vacationing with Uncle Jim & Aunt Jean. Their time together sounded like they truly enjoyed each other’s company. I like to believe they’ll enjoy each other’s company once again, up above.

Our deepest sympathy to Jim’s family - we know he will be greatly missed by all of you. Jim was a wonderful man - and we were truly blessed to have him join our family over the last 10 years. He and Sylvia were a lovely happy couple. We will always remember Jim as a gentlemen with a great sense of humor and the kindest most genuine smile - very thankful for the memories.. Rest in Peace & Fly High, Jim!

When we first met Jim at the gym 14 years ago we thought he was quiet and shy because he didn’t interact with anybody. BOY WERE WE WRONG !!! Since then we have socialized together and shared times with each other’s families and become close friends and enjoyed each other’s company. He love to joke around and especially he enjoyed tormenting us. He will be sadly missed. Love you Jim.
