DEETSCREEK - Kathryn G., 101, resident of Arbutus Park Manor, Johnstown, passed away peacefully at Conemaugh Hospital on Nov. 13, 2024. Born Sept. 28, 1923 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Henry and Ellen Vorhauer. Preceded in death by husband, Wilmer; brothers, Edward Sr. and George Sr.; and sisters, Jeannette, Eleanor, and Margaret (Betts). Survived by son, Rodger (Cheryl) Vorhauer; granddaughter, Trisha (Kevin) Slosman; great granddaughters, Haley and Maddie; grandson, Adam (Dannielle) Vorhauer; great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Hazel; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Kathryn graduated from Ebensburg-Cambria High School in 1941 and Johnstown Vo-Tech in 1970, as an LPN. She worked at the Cambria County Nursing Home for many years. Lifetime member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mundy’s Corner, where she taught Sunday School and was the volunteer adult and children’s choir director for over 20 years. Her strong soprano voice was a beautiful addition to many weddings and solos in church. Kathryn loved God and her family above all; and was interested in nature, especially birds, which she faithfully fed while living in her home. As a resident of Arbutus Park for the past 5 years, her fun spirit and character endeared her to many staff and residents. She was genuinely interested in all people whom she met; she had an amazing memory for names and details of events. She will be missed most of all by her family, but we know her well-lived life on earth is a fraction of the joy of her eternal home. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10 a.m., followed by Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Vicar Jenn Bobolsky-Sherbine, officiating. Interment, Ogden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Kathryn's family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3328 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, PA 15909. Arrangements in care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. Condolences may be left for the family at www.askew-houser.com
