Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Bukovitz

BUKOVITZ – Joan Elizabeth (Lewis), 84, of Colver, Pa. passed away December 25, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pa.   Born October 16, 1940 in Colver, daughter of the late Clair and Lovira (Chidestar) Lewis.  Preceded in death by husband Andrew Anthony Bukovitz whom she married on July 16, 1966 and enjoyed 38 years of marriage.  Also preceded by daughter Andrea Weimer, sons-in-law Randy Weimer and Scott Champion;  brothers: John and Clair Lewis;  sisters: Ella Louchart, Verna Houck, Irma Rusher, and Lorriane McGuire. 

 

Survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Mike) Caggiano and her three sons: Michael (Belinda) Bukovitz; James (Myrna) Bukovitz and John (Jacqueline) Bukovitz; as well as five grandchildren:  Michael, Matthew, Nathan, Kenadee, and Mark Bukovitz.  Also survived by her sister Zelma Atwood as well as many nieces and nephews. 

 

As a young teenager, Joan had worked for the soda grill in Colver and in the early 90’s she began working for Cambria County Schools.  Later in life, she had worked for the Cambria County Courthouse in the Registrar of Deeds Office.  She retired in 2005.  Joan had also served as the Democratic National Committee Woman for Cambria County for Many years.

 

Joan or “Joanie” as she was known to many of her friends, was loved by many.  She was always there to lend a helping hand when needed and she loved playing BINGO.  She was a great “Gram Cracker” to her five grandchildren and will be long remembered for her sweet smile and gentle laugh.  She was fortunate to travel during her time on earth and was able to see places in Hawaii, Philippines and Singapore.  Her sweet nature and smile will be missed by many. 

 

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanie’s memory may be made to the Colver Vol Fire Co. and 40-Tech.
