McDermott - Mary A., 83, Fourth Street, Nanty Glo, died peacefully, December 30, 2005 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born October 24, 1922 in Twin Rocks, daughter of the late Frank V. and Mary (Rutledge) Kline. Preceded in death by husband, John J. "Jiggs" McDermott; brothers: Ralph, Raymond, Matthew "Jack", and Frank Kline; and sisters: Catherine Allen, Olive Davis, Caroline Knepple, and Helen Donoughe. Survived by children: Antoinette, wife of John Galli, Nanty Glo; Sandra, wife of Ronald Nedrich, Twin Rocks; Kathleen, wife of John Clark, Nanty Glo; Brian, married to the former Kim Cobaugh, Vinco; Carole, wife of David Verba, Belsano and Michael, married to the former Sharon Deetscreeek, Nanty Glo; grandchildren: Angela, Stephanie, Mark and Jason Galli, Ronald Jr. and Todd Nedrich, Matthew, Jaime, and Kevin Clark, Alissa and Kristen Furnari, Brandon, Steven and Alison Verba, Michael, Julia and Emily McDermott; and great-grandchildren, Gianina, Nicole, Lillie, Hallie and Olivia. Also survived by sister, Delores Isaacson, Nanty Glo; brother, Henry Kline, Roaming Shores, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Elizabeth McDermott, Nanty Glo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Legion of Mary and Altar Rosary Society, as well as a former CCD teacher and a funeral dinner volunteer. Treasurer of the Nanty Glo Democratic Woman's Organization. Active volunteer for the Red Cross and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Former member of the Nanty Glo Lioness Club. Over the years, Mary had worked at the Nanty Glo Senior Center and served as a teachers aide at the Blacklick and Big Bend Elementary Schools.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a Legion of Mary Rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m., and a vigil prayer service will be held Sunday evening. Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Monday at St. Mary's Church, the Rev. Fr. David S. Peles, celebrant. Committal at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo.
