Obituary of Marion (Hughes) Templeton
TEMPLETON - Marion (Hughes), 103, of Ebensburg, passed away on December 28, 2023. She was born in North Ebensburg on December 28, 1920, the daughter of the late Elmer and Emma (Roberts) Hughes. Marion is preceded in death by her husband, W. Donald Templeton; sister Anne; brothers: Thomas, Roger, Fred, and Ike Hughes; son-in-laws: Robert McKotch and Lyman Walter; grandson John McKotch; and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by children: D. Barry (Karen Richardson), Charlotte "Chip" McKotch, Kay E. (Benjamin) Davis, Nancy T, (Gary) Scanlan, C. Wayne (Dolores "Dolly" Lieb), D. Robert (LouAnn Martin), Janet E. Walter, and Thomas M. (Becky McClung). Also 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived sisters: Nancy Stephenson, Roberta Evans, Twila Claycomb, and Carolyn Maurer; sister-in-law Lois Hughes and numerous nieces and nephews. Marion grew up on the Hughes family farm in South Ebensburg which is now occupied by the fifth generation of the Hughes family. She graduated from the former Wilmore High School in 1938 where she was active in baskteball, music and plays. After her marriage to Don Templeton, they lived in Wilmore. Don went to the service and she then lived at the farm with three children until he returned. In 1947 they moved to Reddinger Street in Ebensburg , in 1952 to West Lloyd Street and then in 2021 to the Village of Maple Heights (Amber Hills) in Ebensburg, where she received exceptional care and have the families gratitude. There have been four generations of Templetons enjoying many happy and busy times in the Lloyd Street home. Marion was a lifetime member of the First United Church of Christ (Congregational), Ebensburg, the church's Pilgrim Daughters, a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, and a pinochle club for 45 years. In 1987, she joined the Ebensburg Senior Center and enjoyed all the activities while making many friends. A her request there will be no viewing, A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m., Saturday at the Ebensburg United Church of Christ, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Mr. Andrew Jones, officiating. Interment at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marion's memory may be made to the Ebensburg Area Ambulance Association or to the United Church of Christ, 217 E.
